The Why of Wednesday Renewal.
Wednesday Renewal is an important part of church life. It exists for a few key reasons:
- By mid-week we are oftentimes drained from work-a-day life and need a boost to stay strong in our walk with the Lord and in our love for others.
- Encourages us to interact with one another on a small group basis which allows for increased intimacy and interaction.
- Encourages us to participate in spiritual disciplines (such as prayer and scripture reading) throughout the week and to share what we are learning and being challenged with in a small group setting.
- Encourages us to participate in spiritual disciplines in a small group setting.
How It Works.
We meet the first three Wednesday’s of each month in the Intern House, which is next to the church building. At 6:30 p.m. a communal meal is served and open to all. At 7:00 p.m. we begin a study through that week’s Scripture reading, discuss the Scripture reading, and then share prayer and praise requests. We close with a time of prayer and praise.
During the Week.
Wednesday Renewal is only one cog in a process of spiritual growth. The meat of the endeavor is in our personal spiritual disciplines which we practice throughout the week – in prayer and Scripture reading – and the benefits of which we bring to share with one another.
Each week there is an assigned reading – which is announced during the morning service and listed on the church event calendar. We also make physical and digital copies of a commentary on the passage available and encourage you to read through the text several times along with the commentary throughout the week while contemplating what the passage is teaching and how God is working in your life through the passage.
The Resources.
- You can find out what Scripture passages we are reading on the Event Calendar.
- The commentaries are available (for free) at Layered Bible.
